Licypriya Kangujam, a 12-year-old climate activist, made a powerful statement at the COP28 in Dubai. Her bold protest against fossil fuels drew both applause and controversy. Her sign demanding an end to fossil fuel usage resonated strongly with the audience, earning her initial support. However, her subsequent detention sparked a wave of disappointment and debate.

While Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi recognized her passion, Licypriya's detention and expulsion from the conference left her disheartened. Her social media posts emphasized the need for support rather than punishment for advocating against fossil fuels. She stressed unity in addressing the urgent climate crisis.

The debate on phasing out fossil fuels remains contentious at COP28, involving nearly 200 countries. Licypriya's activism, despite the obstacles she faced, highlighted the importance of diverse voices, especially passionate young advocates, in shaping critical climate policies. With thousands of delegates representing numerous nations, her actions underscored the significance of such impassioned activism in influencing crucial discussions at the conference.
