On Easter Sunday, at 3.30 PM (IST) Pope Francis gave the Urbi et Orbi blessing to those who were present on the occasion at St Peter’s Square Rome, and those who listened to him via the new media for communication and through Television or Radio. Urbi et Orbi is an apostolic blessing through which the believers can also receive plenary indulgences.

The meaning of Urbi et Orbi is “to the city of Rome and the world.” According to ThePriest.com Orbi et Urbi was constituted 750 years ago.

According to the Code of Canon Law (can. 992) and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (n. 1471): "An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints".

The event was live on EWTN, the Vatican Youtube channel and many other platforms.
